حَدَّثَنَا الْحُسَيْنُ بْنُ إِسْحَاقَ التُّسْتَرِيُّ ثَنَا عُثْمَانُ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ ح وَحَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الْوَارِثِ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ أَبُو عُبَيْدَةَ الْعَسْكَرِيُّ ثَنَا أَبُو الرَّبِيعِ الزَّهْرَانِيُّ قَالَا ثَنَا جَرِيرٌ عَنْ أَشْعَثَ بْنِ سَوَّارٍ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ سِيرِينَ عَنْ عَمْرِو بْنِ وَهْبٍ الثَّقَفِيِّ عَنِ الْمُغِيرَةِ بْنِ شُعْبَةَ قَالَ
كُنَّا مَعَ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ فِي سَفَرٍ فَلَمَّا كَانَ السَّحَرُ ضَرَبْتُ رَاحِلَتِي فَأَقْبَلْتُ مَعَهُ فَانْطَلَقَ حَتَّى تَغَيَّبَ عَنِّي ثُمَّ جَاءَ فَقَالَ «حَاجَتَكَ؟» فَقُلْتُ مَا لِي مِنْ حَاجَةٍ قَالَ «مَعَكَ مَاءٌ؟» قُلْتُ نَعَمْ فَتَوَضَّأَ وَمَسَحَ عَلَى خُفَّيْهِ ثُمَّ انْطَلَقَ حَتَّى أَدْرَكَ النَّاسَ وَهُمْ يُصَلُّونَ وَعَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنُ عَوْفٍ يَؤُمُّهُمْ فَتَحَرَّكَ لِجِيئَةِ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ وَأَوْمَأَ بِيَدِهِ إِلَى عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ أَنِ اثْبُتْ فَصَلَّيْنَا مَا أَدْرَكْنَا وَقَضَيْنَا مَا فَاتَنَا

✧ We were with the Prophet ﷺ on a journey. When it was the pre-dawn time, I urged on my mount and came along with him. He went off until he disappeared from me, then came back and said, “Do you need anything?” I said, “I have no need.” He said, “Do you have water with you?” I said, “Yes.” So he performed wudu and wiped over his leather socks. Then he went on until he reached the people while they were praying, with ‘Abd al-Rahman b. ‘Awf leading them. He moved at the arrival of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, but the Prophet ﷺ gestured with his hand to ‘Abd al-Rahman, meaning, “Stay in place.” So we prayed what we caught up with, and made up what we had missed.
