حَدَّثَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ الْقَاسِمِ بْنِ مُسَاوِرٍ الْجَوْهَرِيُّ ثَنَا سَعِيدُ بْنُ سُلَيْمَانَ ثَنَا أَبُو أُسَامَةَ عَنْ مُجَالِدٍ عَنِ الشَّعْبِيِّ قَالَ قَالَ
رَجُلٌ عِنْدَ الْمُغِيرَةِ بْنِ شُعْبَةَ صَلَّى الله عَلَى مُحَمَّدٍ خَاتَمِ الْأَنْبِيَاءِ لَا نَبِيَّ بَعْدَهُ فَقَالَ الْمُغِيرَةُ حَسْبُكَ أَنْ تَقُولَ خَاتَمِ الْأَنْبِيَاءِ فَإِنَّا كُنَّا نُحَدَّثُ أَنَّ عِيسَى بْنَ مَرْيَمَ خَارِجٌ فَإِنْ كَانَ خَارِجًا فَقَدْ كَانَ قَبْلَهُ وَبَعْدَهُ

✧ A man said in the presence of al-Mughira b. Shu'ba, 'May God bless Muhammad, the Seal of the Prophets; there is no prophet after him.' Al-Mughira said, 'It is enough for you to say, Seal of the Prophets, for we used to be told that 'Isa b. Maryam is to come forth. If he is to come forth, then he was before him and after him.'
