حَدَّثَنَا إِسْحَاقُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ الدَّبَرِيُّ عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّزَّاقِ عَنْ مَعْمَرٍ عَنْ عَبْدِ الْمَلِكِ بْنِ عُمَيْرٍ عَنْ وَرَّادٍ كَاتَبِ الْمُغِيرَةِ بْنِ شُعْبَةَ قَالَ كَتَبَ مُعَاوِيَةُ بْنُ أَبِي سُفْيَانَ إِلَى الْمُغِيرَةِ
أَنِ اكْتُبْ إِلَيَّ بِشَيْءٍ مِنْ حَدِيثِ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ فَكَتَبَ إِلَيْهِ إِنِّي سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ يَتَعَوَّذُ مِنْ ثَلَاثٍ مِنْ عُقُوقِ الْأُمَّهَاتِ وَمِنْ وَأْدِ الْبَنَاتِ وَمِنْ مَنَعَ وَهَاتِ « وَسَمِعْتُهُ» نَهَى عَنْ ثَلَاثٍ عَنْ قِيلَ وَقَالَ وَإِضَاعَةِ الْمَالِ وَكَثْرَةِ السُّؤَالِ وَسَمِعْتُهُ يَقُولُ «اللهُمَّ لَا مَانِعَ لِمَا أَعْطَيْتَ وَلَا مُعْطِيَ لِمَا مَنَعْتَ وَلَا يَنْفَعُ ذَا الْجَدِّ مِنْكَ الْجَدُّ»

✧ That he should write to him something from the hadith of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. So he wrote to him: I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ seeking refuge from three things: from disobedience to mothers, from burying daughters alive, and from “withhold and give.” And I heard him forbid three things: from “it was said and he said,” from wasting wealth, and from excessive asking. And I heard him say: “O Allah, none can withhold what You give, and none can give what You withhold, and no possessor of fortune can benefit from You his fortune.”
