حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ شُعَيْبٍ الْأَصْبَهَانِيُّ ثنا حَفْصُ بْنُ عُمَرَ الْمِهْرِقَانِيُّ ثنا الْقَاسِمُ بْنُ الْحَكَمِ الْعُرَنِيُّ ثنا عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ عَمْرِو بْنِ مُرَّةَ الْجَمَلِيُّ ثنا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ سُوقَةَ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ الْمُنْكَدِرِ عَنْ أَبِيهِ
عَنِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ أَنَّهُ خَرَجَ ذَاتَ لَيْلَةٍ وَقَدْ أَخَّرَ صَلَاةَ الْعِشَاءِ حَتَّى ذَهَبَ مِنَ اللَّيْلِ هُنَيْهَةٌ أَوْ سَاعَةٌ وَالنَّاسُ يَنْتَظِرُونَ فِي الْمَسْجِدِ فَقَالَ «مَا تَنْتَظِرُونَ؟» قَالُوا نَنْتَظِرُ الصَّلَاةَ قَالَ «أَمَا أَنَّكُمْ لَنْ تَزَالُوا فِي صَلَاةٍ مَا انْتَظَرْتُمُوهَا» ثُمَّ قَالَ «أَمَا إِنَّهَا صَلَاةٌ لَمْ يُصَلِّهَا أَحَدٌ مِمَّنْ كَانَ قَبْلَكُمْ مِنَ الْأُمَمِ» ثُمَّ رَفَعَ رَأْسَهُ إِلَى السَّمَاءِ فَقَالَ «النُّجُومُ أَمَانُ السَّمَاءِ فَإِنْ طُمِسَتِ النُّجُومُ أَتَى السَّمَاءَ مَا يُوعَدُونَ وَأَنَا أَمَانُ أَصْحَابِي فَإِذَا قُبِضْتُ أَتَى أَصْحَابِي مَا يُوعَدُونَ وَأَصْحَابِي أَمَانُ أُمَّتِي فَإِذَا قُبِضَ أَصْحَابِي أَتَى أُمَّتِي مَا يُوعَدُونَ يَا بِلَالُ أَقِمْ»

✧ From the Prophet ﷺ that he went out one night, having delayed the Isha prayer until a short while—or an hour—of the night had passed, while the people were waiting in the mosque. He said, “What are you waiting for?” They said, “We are waiting for the prayer.” He said, “Indeed, you will continue to be in prayer as long as you wait for it.” Then he said, “Indeed, it is a prayer that no one among the nations before you ever prayed.” Then he raised his head toward the sky and said, “The stars are a safeguard for the sky; if the stars are obliterated, there will come to the sky what they are promised. I am a safeguard for my Companions; when I am taken, there will come to my Companions what they are promised. My Companions are a safeguard for my community; when my Companions are taken, there will come to my community what it is promised. O Bilal, give the call to commence.”
