حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدَانُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ الْمَرْوَزِيُّ ثنا إِسْحَاقُ بْنُ رَاهَوَيْهِ ح وَحَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ إِسْحَاقَ بْنِ رَاهَوَيْهِ ثنا أَبِي ثنا عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ أَنَا مَعْمَرٌ عَنِ الزُّهْرِيِّ عَنْ سَعِيدِ بْنِ الْمُسَيِّبِ عَنْ أَبِيهِ
أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ قَالَ لِجَدِّهِ «مَا اسْمُكَ؟» قَالَ حَزْنٌ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ «بَلْ أَنْتَ سَهْلٌ» قَالَ لَا أُغَيِّرُ اسْمًا سَمَّانِيهِ أَبِي «فَمَا زَالَتْ تِلْكَ الْحُزُونَةُ فِينَا بَعْدُ»

✧ that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said to his grandfather, “What is your name?” He said, “Hazn.” The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, “Rather, you are Sahl.” He said, “I will not change a name my father gave me.” So that harshness has remained among us ever since.
