✧ The genealogy of Ali b. Abi Talib "who participated in the Battle of Badr, son of Abd al-Muttalib b. Hashim, son of Abd Manaf b. Qusayy, son of Kilab b. Murrah, son of Ka'b b. Lu'ayy, son of Ghalib b. Fihr, son of Malik, with the kunya of Abu al-Hasan".

حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عُثْمَانَ بْنِ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ ثنا مِنْجَابُ بْنُ الْحَارِثِ ثنا أَبُو حُذَيْفَةَ الثَّعْلَبِيُّ عَنْ زِيَادِ بْنِ عِلَاقَةَ عَنْ جَابِرِ بْنِ سَمُرَةَ السُّوَائِيِّ عَنْ عَلِيٍّ ؓ
أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ قَالَ سَأَلْتُ رَبِّي ﷻ ثَلَاثَ خِصَالٍ لِأُمَّتِي فَأَعْطَانِي اثْنَتَيْنِ وَمَنَعَنِي وَاحِدَةً قُلْتُ يَا رَبِّ لَا تُهْلِكْ أُمَّتِي جُوعًا قَالَ هَذِهِ قُلْتُ يَا رَبِّ لَا تُسَلِّطْ عَلَيْهِمْ عَدُوًّا مِنْ غَيْرِهِمْ يَعْنِي أَهْلَ الشِّرْكِ فَيَحْتَاجُهُمْ قَالَ لَكَ ذَلِكَ قُلْتُ يَا رَبِّ لَا تَجْعَلْ بَأْسَهُمْ بَيْنَهُمْ فَمَنَعَنِي هَذِهِ

✧ The Prophet ﷺ said: "I asked my Lord, Mighty and Exalted, for three qualities for my nation, and He granted me two and withheld one. I said, 'O Lord, do not destroy my nation by hunger.' He said, 'This is granted.' I said, 'O Lord, do not set over them an enemy from other than them'—meaning the people of polytheism—'and make them need him.' He said, 'That is granted to you.' I said, 'O Lord, do not make their might between themselves,' and He withheld this one from me."
