حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو عُمَرَ الضَّرِيرُ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عُثْمَانَ بْنِ سَعِيدٍ الْكُوفِيُّ ثنا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ يُونُسَ ثنا أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ عَيَّاشٍ عَنْ عَاصِمِ بْنِ أَبِي النَّجُودِ عَنْ أَبِي بُرْدَةَ عَنْ أَبِيهِ وَعَنْ أَبِي الْمَلِيحِ
عَنْ مُعَاذِ بْنِ جَبَلٍ قَالَا كَانَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ إِذَا سَافَرَ كَانَ الْمُهَاجِرُونَ الَّذِينَ يَلُونَهُ فَفَقَدْنَاهُ لَيْلَةً مِنْ مَكَانِهِ فَخَشِينَا أَنْ يَكُونَ عَرَضَ لِرَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ شَيْءٌ فَذَهَبْنَا فِي طَلَبِهِ فَإِذَا هَيْجٌ كَهَيْجِ الرَّحَا فَاسْتَقْبَلْنَاهُ رَاجِعًا فَقُلْتُ فَقَدْنَاكَ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ فَخَشِينَا أَنْ يَكُونَ عَرَضَ لَكَ شَيْءٌ فَقَالَ «لَا وَلَكِنْ جَاءَنِي رَسُولٌ مِنْ رَبِّي فَخَيَّرَنِي بَيْنَ أَنْ يَدْخُلَ نِصْفُ أُمَّتِي الْجَنَّةَ أَوِ الشَّفَاعَةِ فَاخْتَرْتُ الشَّفَاعَةَ» قُلْنَا فَإِنَّا نَسْأَلُكَ بِحَقِّ الْإِسْلَامِ وَبِحَقِّ صُحْبَتِنَا إِلَّا جَعَلْتَنَا فِيهَا قَالَ «فَأَنْتُمْ فِيهَا» ثُمَّ جَاءَ رَجُلَانِ فَقَالَا مِثْلَ ذَلِكَ فَقَالَ لَهُمَا نَعَمْ ثُمَّ جَاءَ آخِرُ حَتَّى كَثُرَ النَّاسُ فَقَالَ «إِنِّي جَاعِلٌ فِي شَفَاعَتِي مَنْ مَاتَ مِنْ أُمَّتِي لَا يُشْرِكُ بِاللهِ شَيْئًا»

✧ From Muʿādh b. Jabal: When the Prophet ﷺ traveled, the Emigrants used to be nearest to him. One night we missed him from his place, and we feared something had happened to the Messenger of God ﷺ, so we went looking for him. We found a sound like the rumbling of a mill, and we met him returning. I said, “We missed you, O Messenger of God, and feared something had happened to you.” He said, “No, but a messenger came to me from my Lord and gave me the choice between admitting half of my community to Paradise or intercession, and I chose intercession.” We said, “We ask you by the right of Islam and the right of our companionship that you make us among them.” He said, “Then you are among them.” Then two men came and said the same, and he said to them, “Yes.” Then another came, until the people were numerous, and he said, “I shall place in my intercession whoever of my community dies without associating anything with God.”
