حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو الزِّنْبَاعِ رَوْحُ بْنُ الْفَرَجِ حَدَّثَنَا إِبْرَاهِيمُ بْنُ مَخْلَدٍ ثنا الْفَضْلُ بْنُ الْمُخْتَارِ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ مُسْلِمٍ الطَّائِفِيُّ عَنِ ابْنِ أَبِي نَجِيحٍ عَنْ مُجَاهِدٍ عَنْ جَابِرِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللهِ ؓ قَالَ

قَالَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ يَا مُعَاذُ إِنِّي مُرْسِلُكَ إِلَى قَوْمٍ أَهْلِ كِتَابٍ فَإِذَا سُأِلْتَ عَنِ الْمَجَرَّةِ الَّتِي فِي السَّمَاءِ فَقُلْ هِيَ لُعَابُ حَيَّةٍ تَحْتَ الْعَرْشِ

Translation

✧ The Prophet ﷺ said: "O Mu'adh, I am sending you to a people of the Book. If you are asked about the milky way in the sky, say: It is the saliva of a serpent beneath the Throne."
