حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو الزِّنْبَاعِ رَوْحُ بْنُ الْفَرَجِ ثنا يَحْيَى بْنُ بُكَيْرٍ حَدَّثَنِي ابْنُ وَهْبٍ عَنْ مَالِكِ بْنِ أَنَسٍ عَنْ يَحْيَى بْنِ سَعِيدٍ عَنْ أَبِي الزُّبَيْرِ عَنْ جَابِرٍ قَالَ أَبْصَرَتْ عَيْنَاي
وَسَمِعَتْ أُذُنَاي رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ بِالْجِعْرَانَةِ وَفِي ثَوْبِ بِلَالٍ فِضَّةٌ وَرَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ يَقْبِضُهَا لِلنَّاسِ فَيُعْطِيهِمْ فَقَالَ لَهُ رَجُلٌ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ اعْدِلْ قَالَ «وَيْلَكَ فَمَنْ يَعْدِلُ إِذَا لَمْ أَعْدَلْ؟ لَقَدْ خِبْتَ وَخَسِرْتَ إِنْ لَمْ أَكُنْ أَعْدَلُ» فَقَالَ عُمَرُ بْنُ الْخَطَّابِ ؓ دَعْنِي يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ فَلْأَقْتُلْ هَذَا الْمُنَافِقَ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ «مَعَاذَ اللهِ أَنْ يَتَحَدَّثَ النَّاسُ أَنِّي أَقْتُلُ أَصْحَابِي إِنَّ هَذَا وَأَصْحَابَهُ يَقْرَءُونَ الْقُرْآنَ لَا يُجَاوِزُ حُلُوقَهُمْ أَوْ حَنَاجِرَهُمْ يَمْرُقُونَ مِنَ الدِّينِ مُرُوقَ السَّهْمِ مِنَ الرَّمِيَّةِ»

✧ My ears heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ at al-Ji'ranah while there was silver in Bilal's garment, and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ was distributing it to the people. A man said to him: "O Messenger of Allah, be just." He said: "Woe to you! Who will be just if I am not just? You would surely be a loser if I were not just." Umar b. al-Khattab ؓ said: "Let me kill this hypocrite, O Messenger of Allah." The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "Allah forbid that people should say that I kill my companions. This man and his companions recite the Qur'an but it does not pass their throats; they pass out of the religion as an arrow passes through its target."
