حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ إِسْحَاقَ بْنِ رَاهَوَيْهِ ثنا أَبِي ثنا جَرِيرٌ ح وَحَدَّثَنَا الْحُسَيْنُ بْنُ إِسْحَاقَ التُّسْتَرِيُّ ثنا عُثْمَانُ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ ثنا جَرِيرٌ عَنِ الْأَعْمَشِ عَنِ الْحَكَمِ وَحَبِيبِ بْنِ أَبِي ثَابِتٍ عَنْ مَيْمُونِ بْنِ أَبِي شَبِيبٍ عَنْ مُعَاذِ بْنِ جَبَلٍ قَالَ
قُلْتُ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ أَنْبِئْنِي بِعَمَلٍ يُدْخِلُنِي الْجَنَّةَ وَيُبَاعِدُنِي مِنَ النَّارِ فَقَالَ «سَأَلْتُ عَنْ عَظِيمٍ وَإِنَّهُ لَيَسِيرٌ عَلَى مَنْ يَسَّرَهُ اللهُ عَلَيْهِ تَعْبُدُ اللهَ وَلَا تُشْرِكُ بِهِ شَيْئًا وَتُقِيمُ الصَّلَاةَ الْمَكْتُوبَةَ وَتُؤَدِّي الزَّكَاةَ الْمَفْرُوضَةَ وَتَصُومُ رَمَضَانَ وَإِنْ شِئْتَ أَنْبَأْتُكَ بِأَبْوَابِ الْخَيْرِ» قُلْتُ أَجَلْ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ قَالَ «الصَّوْمُ جُنَّةٌ وَالصَّدَقَةُ تُكَفِّرُ الْخَطِيئَةَ وَقِيَامُ الرَّجُلِ فِي جَوْفِ اللَّيْلِ يَبْتَغِي وَجْهَ اللهِ» قَالَ ثُمَّ قَرَأَ هَذِهِ الْآيَةَ {تَتَجَافَى جُنُوبُهُمْ عَنِ الْمَضَاجِعِ}

✧ I said, "O Messenger of God, tell me of a deed that will admit me to Paradise and keep me far from the Fire." He said, "You have asked about something great, yet it is easy for the one for whom God makes it easy: that you worship God and do not associate anything with Him, establish the prescribed prayer, give the obligatory zakat, and fast Ramadan. And if you wish, I will tell you of the gates of goodness." I said, "Yes, O Messenger of God." He said, "Fasting is a shield, charity extinguishes sin, and a man's standing in the depths of the night seeking the face of God." He said: Then he recited this verse: {Their sides forsake their beds}.
