✧ I answered the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, and he said: Leave me, for I will not return. So he let him go. When he went to the Prophet ﷺ the next morning, he said: “O Mu‘ādh, what did your captive do?” He said: I released him. On the second night, he sensed him and seized him. He again pleaded with him and swore that he would not return, so he let him go. On the third night, he sensed him, seized him, and again he pleaded and swore that he would not return, but he refused to release him. He said: Let me go and I will teach you a verse that, if you recite it, we will not approach that place. He taught him the Verse of the Throne, so he let him go. He went to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ in the morning and told him what had happened, and he said: “He spoke the truth, though he is a liar.”
