حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو خَلِيفَةَ الْفَضْلُ بْنُ الْحُبَابِ ثنا حَفْصُ بْنُ عُمَرَ الْحَوْضِيُّ ثنا الْحَسَنُ بْنُ أَبِي جَعْفَرٍ عَنْ أَبِي الزُّبَيْرِ عَنْ أَبِي الطُّفَيْلِ عَنْ مُعَاذٍ قَالَ
كُنْتُ مَعَ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ فِي سَفَرٍ فَأَرْدَفَنِي خَلْفَهُ فَمَا مَسَسْتُ شَيْئًا أَلْيَنَ مِنْ جِلْدِ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ وَلَا وَجَدْتُ رَائِحَةً أَطْيَبَ مِنْ رَائِحَةِ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ فَقَالَ «يَا مُعَاذُ هَلْ سَمِعْتَ مُنْذُ اللَّيْلَةِ حِسًّا؟» قُلْتُ لَا قَالَ إِنَّهُ أَتَانِي آتٍ مِنْ رَبِّي فَبَشَّرَنِي أَنَّهُ مَنْ مَاتَ مِنْ أُمَّتِي لَا يُشْرِكُ بِاللهِ شَيْئًا دَخَلَ الْجَنَّةَ قُلْتُ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ أَفَلَا أَخْرُجُ إِلَى النَّاسِ فَأُبَشِّرَهُمْ؟ قَالَ «دَعْهُمْ فَلْيَسْتَبِقُوا الصِّرَاطَ»

✧ I was with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ on a journey and he seated me behind him. I touched nothing softer than the skin of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, nor did I find a scent more fragrant than the scent of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. He said, "O Mu'adh, have you heard any sound since last night?" I said, "No." He said, "A messenger from my Lord came to me and gave me glad tidings that whoever of my Ummah dies without associating anything with Allah will enter Paradise." I said, "O Messenger of Allah, shall I not go out to the people and give them glad tidings?" He said, "Leave them; let them race for the straight path."
