حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ حَنْبَلٍ حَدَّثَنِي أَبِي عَنْ عَبَّادِ بْنِ عَبَّادٍ الْمُهَلَّبِيِّ عَنِ ابْنِ عَوْنٍ عَنْ مَكْحُولٍ أَنَّ عُقْبَةَ بْنَ عَامِرٍ أَتَى مَسْلَمَةَ بْنَ مُخَلَّدٍ وَكَانَ بَيْنَهُ وَبَيْنَ الْبَوَّابِ شَيْءٌ فَسَمِعَ صَوْتَهُ فَأَذِنَ لَهُ فَقَالَ
إِنِّي لَمْ آتِكَ زَائِرًا وَلَكِنْ جِئْتُكَ بِحَاجَةٍ أَتَذْكُرُ يَوْمَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ «مَنْ عَلِمَ مِنْ أَخِيهِ سَيِّئَةً فَسَتَرَهَا سَتَرَ اللهُ عَلَيْهِ يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ» قَالَ نَعَمْ قَالَ لِهَذَا جِئْتُ

✧ “I have not come to you as a visitor, but I have come to you with a need. Do you remember the day when the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: ‘Whoever learns of a fault of his brother and conceals it, Allah will conceal his fault on the Day of Resurrection’?” He said: “Yes.” He said: “It is for this that I have come.”
