حَدَّثَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ الْحُسَيْنِ بْنِ مَابِهْرَامَ الْأَيْذَجِيُّ ثنا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ مَرْزُوقٍ ثنا عُمَرُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ الرَّقِّيُّ ثنا زَكَرِيَّا بْنُ طَلْحَةَ بْنِ مُسْلِمِ بْنِ الْعَلَاءِ الْحَضْرَمِيُّ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنْ جَدِّهِ مُسْلِمٍ قَالَ
شَهِدْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ فِيمَا عَهَدَ إِلَى الْعَلَاءِ حَيْثُ وَجَّهَهُ إِلَى الْبَحْرَيْنِ قَالَ «وَلَا يَحِلُّ لِأَحَدٍ جَهْلُ الْفَرْضِ وَالسُّنَنِ وَيَحِلُّ لَهُ مَا سِوَى ذَلِكَ» وَكَتَبَ للعلاءِ «أَنْ سُنُّوا بِالْمَجُوسِ سُنَّةَ أَهْلِ الْكِتَابِ»

✧ I was present with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ in what he instructed al-'Ala' when he dispatched him to al-Bahrayn. He said, "It is not permissible for anyone to be ignorant of the obligatory duties and the sunnahs, and what is beyond that is permissible for him." And he wrote to al-'Ala': "Treat the Magians according to the sunnah of the People of the Book."
