حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو أُسَامَةَ عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ أَبِي أُسَامَةَ الْحَلَبِيُّ ثنا حَجَّاجُ بْنُ أَبِي مَنِيعٍ الرُّصَافِيُّ قَالَ حَدَّثَنِي جَدِّي عَنِ الزُّهْرِيِّ قَالَ أَخْبَرَنِي أَبُو سَلَمَةَ بْنُ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ
أَنَّ مُعَاوِيَةَ بْنَ الْحَكَمِ السُّلَمِيَّ وَكَانَ مِنْ أَصْحَابِ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ قَالَ سَأَلْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ أَرَأَيْتَ أُمُورًا كُنَّا نَفْعَلُهَا فِي الْجَاهِلِيَّةِ؟ كُنَّا نَتَطَيَّرُ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ «ذَاكَ شَيْءٌ يَجِدُهُ أَحَدُكُمْ فِي نَفْسِهِ فَلَا يَصُدَّنَّكُمْ» قُلْتُ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ وَكُنَّا نَأْتِي الْكُهَّانَ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ «فلَا تَأْتُوا الْكُهَّانَ»

✧ Mu'awiya b. al-Hakam al-Sulami, who was one of the Companions of the Messenger of God ﷺ, said: I asked the Messenger of God ﷺ: What do you think about things we used to do in the pre-Islamic era? We used to practice tiyara (drawing evil omens from birds). The Messenger of God ﷺ said: "That is something one of you finds in his heart, so do not let it deter you." I said: O Messenger of God, we also used to go to soothsayers. The Messenger of God ﷺ said: "Do not go to soothsayers."
