حَدَّثَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ عَمْرٍو الْقَطِرَانِيُّ ثنا عَبْدُ الْأَعْلَى بْنُ حَمَّادٍ النَّرْسِيُّ ثنا بِشْرُ بْنُ السَّرِيِّ ثنا ابْنُ لَهِيعَةَ عَنْ كَعْبِ بْنِ عَلْقَمَةَ قَالَ سَمِعْتُ حَسَّانَ بْنَ كُرَيْبٍ الْحِمْيَرِيَّ يَقُولُ سَمِعْتُ ابْنَ ذِي كَلَاعٍ يَقُولُ جَاءَ مُعَاوِيَةُ يُرِيدُ مِنْ صَاحِبِ أَرْمِينِيَةَ فَلَمَّا قَرَأَ مُعَاوِيَةُ الْكِتَابَ خَرَجَ مُغْضَبًا ثُمَّ دَعَا كَاتِبَهُ فَقَالَ

اكْتُبْ إِلَى صَاحِبِ أَرْمِينِيَةَ جَوَابَ كِتَابِهِ ثَكِلَتْكَ أُمُّكَ وَلَا تُحَرِّكْهُمْ بِشَيْءٍ فَإِنِّي سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ يَقُولُ «تَارِكُوا التُّرْكَ مَا تَرَكُوكُمْ»

✧ Write to the ruler of Armenia a reply to his letter—may your mother be bereaved of you—and do not stir them up with anything, for I heard the Messenger of God ﷺ say: “Leave the Turks alone as long as they leave you alone.”
