حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عُثْمَانَ بْنِ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ ثنا فَرْوَةُ بْنُ أَبِي الْمَغْرَاءِ ثنا الْقَاسِمُ بْنُ مَالِكٍ الْمُزَنِيُّ ثنا عَاصِمُ بْنُ كُلَيْبٍ عَنْ أَبِي بُرْدَةَ بْنِ أَبِي مُوسَى الْأَشْعَرِيِّ قَالَ

دَخَلْتُ عَلَى مُعَاوِيَةَ وَهُوَ يَتَضَوَّرُ وَقَرْحُهُ بَيْنَ كَتِفَيْهِ فَقَالَ مَا يَسُرُّنِي أَنِّي لَا أَجِدُ مَا تَرَى سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ يَقُولُ «مَا مِنْ أَذًى يُصِيبُ الْمُؤْمِنَ فِي جَسَدِهِ إِلَّا كَانَ كَفَّارَةً لِخَطَايَاهُ»

✧ I entered upon Muawiyah while he was writhing in pain, and his sore was between his shoulders. He said: It does not please me that I should not find what you see. I heard the Messenger of God ﷺ say: “No harm afflicts a believer in his body except that it is an expiation for his sins.”
