حَدَّثَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الْوَهَّابِ بْنِ نَجْدَةَ وَأَبُو زَيْدٍ الْحَوْطَيَانِ قَالَا ثنا أَبُو الْمُغِيرَةِ ثنا سَعِيدُ بْنُ بَشِيرٍ عَنْ قَتَادَةَ عَنْ أَبِي مَيْمُونَةَ قَالَ قَالَ

مُعَاوِيَةُ بْنُ أَبِي سُفْيَانَ «إِنَّ أَهْلَ مَكَّةَ أَخْرَجُوا رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ فَلَا تَكُونُ فِيهِمُ الْخِلَافَةُ وَإِنَّ أَهْلَ الْمَدِينَةِ قَتَلُوا عُثْمَانَ ؓ فَلَا تَعُودُ الْخِلَافَةُ فِيهِمْ أَبَدًا»

✧ Muawiyah b. Abi Sufyan said: “The people of Makkah expelled the Messenger of God ﷺ, so the caliphate shall not be among them, and the people of Madinah killed Uthman ؓ, so the caliphate shall never return to them.”
