حَدَّثَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ عَبْدِ الْعَزِيزِ ثنا حَجَّاجُ بْنُ الْمِنْهَالِ ثنا شُعْبَةُ أَخْبَرَنِي سَعْدُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ قَالَ سَمِعْتُ مَعْبَدًا قَالَ كَانَ مُعَاوِيَةُ قَلَّمَا يُحَدِّثُ

عَنْ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ فَيَذْكُرُ هَؤُلَاءِ الْكَلِمَاتِ يُكْثِرُ أَنْ يُحَدِّثَ بِهِنَّ فِي الْجُمَعِ «مَنْ يُرِدِ اللهُ بِهِ خَيْرًا يُفَقِّهْهُ فِي الدِّينِ وَإِنَّ هَذَا الْمَالَ خَضِرٌ حُلْوٌ فَمَنْ أَخَذَهُ بِحَقِّهِ بُورِكَ لَهُ فِيهِ وَإِيَّاكُمْ وَالتَّمَادُحَ فَإِنَّهُ الذَّبْحُ»

✧ From the Messenger of God ﷺ — and he would mention these words, often narrating them on Fridays: “Whomever God intends good for, He grants him understanding in religion. This wealth is green and sweet; whoever takes it with its due right will be blessed in it. Beware of mutual praise, for it is slaughter.”
