حَدَّثَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الْوَهَّابِ بْنِ نَجْدَةَ الْحَوْطِيُّ وَمُوسَى بْنُ عِيسَى بْنِ الْمُنْذِرِ الْحِمْصِيُّ قَالَا ثنا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ خَالِدٍ الْوَهْبِيُّ ثنا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ إِسْحَاقَ عَنِ الزُّهْرِيِّ عَنْ أَيُّوبَ بْنِ بَشِيرِ بْنِ النُّعْمَانِ الْأَنْصَارِيِّ حَدَّثَنِي مُعَاوِيَةُ قَالَ

خَرَجَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ حَتَّى صَعِدَ الْمِنْبَرَ وَذَكَرَ قَتْلَى أُحُدٍ فَصَلَّى عَلَيْهِمْ وَأَكْثَرَ الصَّلَاةَ ثُمَّ قَالَ «إِنَّ عَبْدًا مِنْ عَبَّادِ اللهِ خَيَّرَهُ اللهُ بَيْنَ الدُّنْيَا وَمَا عِنْدَهُ فَاخْتَارَ مَا عِنْدَ اللهِ» فَلَمْ يَلْقَهَا إِلَّا أَبُو بَكْرٍ قَالَ نَحْنُ نَفْدِيكَ بِآبَائِنَا وَأُمَّهَاتِنَا فَقَالَ «عَلَى رِسْلِكَ يَا أَبَا بَكْرٍ إِنَّ أَفْضَلَ النَّاسِ عِنْدِي فِي الصُّحْبَةِ وَذَاتِ يَدِهِ ابْنُ أَبِي قُحَافَةَ»

✧ The Messenger of God ﷺ went out until he climbed the pulpit, mentioned the martyrs of Uhud, prayed over them, and prolonged the prayer. Then he said, “A servant among God's servants was given the choice by God between this world and what is with Him, and he chose what is with God.” None understood it except Abu Bakr, who said, “We would ransom you with our fathers and mothers.” He said, “Gently, O Abu Bakr. The best of people in my eyes in companionship and in generosity with his wealth is the son of Abu Quhafa.”
