حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ عُثْمَانَ بْنِ صَالِحٍ وَبَكْرُ بْنُ سَهْلٍ قَالَا ثنا عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ صَالِحٍ حَدَّثَنِي اللَّيْثُ قَالَ حَدَّثَنِي هِشَامُ بْنُ سَعْدٍ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عُقْبَةَ قَالَ

خَطَبَ مُعَاوِيَةُ فَتَكَلَّمَ بِشَيْءٍ مِمَّا يُنْكِرُهُ النَّاسُ فَرَدُّوا عَلَيْهِ فَسَّرَهُ ذَلِكَ وَقَالَ سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ يَقُولُ «يَكُونُ أُمَرَاءُ يَقُولُونَ وَلَا يُرَدُّ عَلَيْهِمْ يَتَهَافَتُونَ فِي النَّارِ يَتْبَعُ بَعْضُهُمْ بَعْضًا»

✧ Mu'awiya delivered a sermon and said something that the people disapproved of, so they rebutted him. That pleased him, and he said: I heard the Messenger of God ﷺ say, “There will be rulers who speak and are not rebutted; they will tumble into the Fire, one following another.”
