حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو أُسَامَةَ عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ أَبِي أُسَامَةَ الْحَلَبِيُّ ثنا الْحَجَّاجُ بْنُ أَبِي مَنِيعٍ الرُّصَافِيُّ ثنا جَدِّي عَنِ الزُّهْرِيِّ قَالَ كَانَ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ جُبَيْرِ بْنِ مُطْعِمٍ يُحَدِّثُ قَالَ بَلَغَ مُعَاوِيَةَ أَنَّ عَبْدَ اللهِ بْنَ عَمْرٍو يُحَدِّثُ
أَنَّهُ سَيَكُونُ مَلِكٌ مِنْ قَحْطَانَ فَغَضِبَ مُعَاوِيَةُ فَقَامَ فَأَثْنَى عَلَى اللهِ بِمَا هُوَ أَهْلُهُ ثُمَّ قَالَ أَمَّا بَعْدُ فَإِنَّهُ بَلَغَنِي أَنَّ رِجَالًا مِنْكُمْ يَتَحَدَّثُونَ أَحَادِيثَ لَيْسَتْ فِي كِتَابِ اللهِ وَلَا يُؤْثَرُ عَنْ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ وَإِنَّ ذَلِكَ لِجَهَالِكُمْ فَإِيَّاكُمْ وَالْأَمَانِيَّ الَّتِي تُضِلُّ أَهْلَهَا فَإِنِّي سَمِعْتُ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ يَقُولُ «إِنَّ هَذَا الْأَمْرَ فِي قُرَيْشٍ وَلَا يُعَادِيهِمْ أَحَدٌ إِلَّا أَكَبَّهُ اللهُ لِوَجْهِهِ مَا أَقَامُوا الدِّينَ»

✧ He said that there would be a king from Qaḥṭān. Muʿāwiyah became angry and stood up, praised Allah as He deserves, then said: To proceed: It has reached me that some men among you speak of things that are not in the Book of Allah and are not reported from the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. That is due to your ignorance. Beware of vain desires that mislead their people. I heard the Prophet ﷺ say: �This matter (authority) rests with Quraysh. No one opposes them except that Allah throws him on his face, as long as they uphold the religion.�
