حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ صَالِحِ بْنِ الْوَلِيدِ النَّرْسِيُّ ثنا مَالِكُ بْنُ سَعْدٍ الْقَيْسِيُّ ثنا رَوْحُ بْنُ عُبَادَةَ ثنا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ أَبِي حَفْصَةَ عَنِ الزُّهْرِيِّ عَنْ حُمَيْدِ بْنِ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ مُعَاوِيَةَ عَلَى الْمِنْبَرِ يَقُولُ
سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ يَقُولُ «هَذَا يَوْمُ عَاشُورَاءَ وَلَمْ يُكْتَبْ عَلَيْكُمْ صِيَامُهُ وَأَنَا صَائِمٌ فَمَنْ شَاءَ فَلْيَصُمْ وَمَنْ شَاءَ فَلْيُفْطِرْ»

✧ I heard the Messenger of God ﷺ say: “This is the day of ʿĀshūrāʾ, and its fasting has not been made obligatory upon you, but I am fasting. So whoever wishes may fast, and whoever wishes may break the fast.”
