حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو مُسْلِمٍ الْكَشِّيُّ

ثنا الْقَعْنَبِيُّ ثنا سُفْيَانُ عَنِ الزُّهْرِيِّ عَنْ حُمَيْدِ بْنِ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ قَالَ قَدِمَ مُعَاوِيَةُ الْمَدِينَةَ فَقَالَ أَيْنَ عُلَمَاؤُكُمْ؟ وَأَخْرَجَ كُبَّةً مِنْ شَعْرٍ مِنْ كُمِّهِ فَقَالَ سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ يَنْهَى عَنْ هَذَا وَقَالَ «إِنَّمَا هَلَكَ بَنُو إِسْرَائِيلَ حِينَ اتَّخَذَ نِسَاؤُهُمْ مِثْلَ هَذَا»

✧ Al-Qaʿnabī narrated to us: Sufyān narrated to us, from al-Zuhrī, from Ḥumayd b. ʿAbd al-Raḥmān, who said: Muʿāwiyah came to Madinah and said: "Where are your scholars?" He brought out a bundle of hair from his sleeve and said: "I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ forbidding this, and he said: 'The Children of Israel were destroyed only when their women adopted the like of this.'"
