✧ That he was present with the Prophet ﷺ on the day of the conquest [of Makkah], at Khaybar, and at al-Ta'if. He was a poet, and he said, "O Messenger of God, give me a ruling about poetry." He said, "For the space between your chest and your shoulder to be filled with pus is better than for it to be filled with poetry." I said, "O Messenger of God, wipe over my head." He placed his hand on my head, and after that I never uttered a line of poetry. Malik lived to old age until his head and beard turned white, but the place where the hand of the Messenger of God ﷺ had been did not turn white.
