✧ He heard Abu Ruham al-Ghifari, who was one of the Companions of the Prophet ﷺ who pledged allegiance under the tree, say: I went on the expedition to Tabuk with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. When we traveled one night, I rode close to him, and drowsiness overcame me. I would start awake and find my mount near his mount, and its closeness alarmed me for fear of striking his foot in the stirrup, so I would draw my mount back. This continued until part of the night had passed, when sleep overpowered my eyes and my mount jostled against his foot in the stirrup and struck his foot. I did not wake except at his saying, 'Hass' (a word of pain). I said, 'Seek forgiveness for me, O Messenger of Allah.' He said, 'Move on.' The Prophet ﷺ then began asking me about those who had stayed behind from Banu Ghifar, and I informed him. He asked me, 'What happened to the long, reddish, hairless ones?' I told him that they had stayed behind. Then he said, 'What happened to the dark-complexioned, short, curly-haired, hairless ones who have livestock with branded young she-camels?' The narrator said: I tried to remember among Banu Ghifar, but I could not recall them until I remembered that they were a group from Aslam. I said, 'O Messenger of Allah, those are a group from Aslam who stayed behind.' The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, 'What prevents any one of those, when he stays behind, from carrying an active man on one of his camels in the path of Allah? Indeed, the dearest of my people to me that they should not stay behind from me are the Emigrants from Quraysh, the Ansar, Aslam, and Ghifar.'
