حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عُثْمَانَ بْنِ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ ثنا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عِمْرَانَ بْنِ أَبِي لَيْلَى حَدَّثَنِي أَبِي عَنِ ابْنِ أَبِي لَيْلَى عَنِ الْحَكَمِ عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ أَبِي لَيْلَى عَنْ كَعْبِ بْنِ عُجْرَة قَالَ

لَمَّا نَزَلَتْ {إِنَّ اللهَ وَمَلَائِكَتَهُ يُصَلُّونَ عَلَى النَّبِيِّ} قُلْتُ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ السَّلَامُ عَلَيْكَ قَدْ عَرَفْنَاهُ فَكَيْفَ الصَّلَاةُ عَلَيْكَ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ؟ قَالَ قُلِ اللهُمَّ صَلِّ عَلَى مُحَمَّدٍ وَعَلَى آلِ مُحَمَّدٍ كَمَا صَلَّيْتَ عَلَى إِبْرَاهِيمَ وَآلِ إِبْرَاهِيمَ إِنَّكَ حَمِيدٌ مَجِيدٌ

✧ "When 'Indeed, Allah and His angels pray upon the Prophet' was revealed, I said, 'O Messenger of Allah, peace be upon you, we already know how to say salaam to you, but how should we pray upon you, O Messenger of Allah?' He replied, 'Say: O Allah, pray upon Muhammad and upon the family of Muhammad, as You prayed upon Ibrahim and upon the family of Ibrahim. Indeed, You are praiseworthy and glorious.'"
