حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو يَزِيدَ الْقَرَاطِيسِيُّ ثنا أَسَدُ بْنُ مُوسَى ثنا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يُوسُفَ عَنْ أَنَسِ بْنِ أَبِي الْقَاسِمِ عَنِ ابْنِ كَعْبِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ

عَنْ أَبِيهِ رَفَعَهُ إِلَى النَّبِيِّ ﷺ فِيمَا أَحْسَبُ فِي قَوْلِهِ {سَوَاءٌ عَلَيْنَا أَجَزِعْنَا أَمْ صَبَرْنَا مَا لَنَا مِنْ مَحِيصٍ} قَالَ يَقُولُ أَهْلُ النَّارِ هَلُمُّوا فَلْنَصْبِرْ قَالَ فَصَبَرُوا خَمْسَ مِائَةِ عَامٍ فَلَمَّا رَأَوْا ذَلِكَ لَا يَنْفَعُهُمْ قَالُوا هَلُمُّوا فَلْنَجْزَعْ قَالَ فَيَبْكُونَ خَمْسَمِائَةِ عَامٍ فَلَمَّا رَأَوْا ذَلِكَ لَمْ يَنْفَعُهُمْ قَالُوا {سَوَاءٌ عَلَيْنَا أَجَزِعْنَا أَمْ صَبَرْنَا مَا لَنَا مِنْ مَحِيصٍ}

Translation

✧ From his father, who raised it to the Prophet ﷺ as I think, regarding His saying, “It is the same for us whether we grieve or are patient; we have no escape.” He said: The people of the Fire say, “Come, let us be patient.” So they are patient for five hundred years. When they see that it does not benefit them, they say, “Come, let us grieve.” They then weep for five hundred years. When they see that it does not benefit them, they say, “It is the same for us whether we grieve or are patient; we have no escape.”
