حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ صَالِحِ بْنِ الْوَلِيدِ النَّرْسِيُّ ثنا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْمُثَنَّى ثنا عَبْدُ الْغَفَّارِ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللهِ الْكُرَيْزِيُّ ثنا صَالِحُ بْنُ أَبِي الْأَخْضَرِ عَنِ الزُّهْرِيِّ أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ عَبْدَ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنَ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ كَعْبِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ يُحَدِّثُ عَنْ عَمِّهِ عُبَيْدِ اللهِ بْنِ كَعْبٍ وَكَانَ قَائِدَ كَعْبٍ حِينَ عَمِيَ قَالَ قَالَ

كَعْبٌ «لَقَدْ بَايَعْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ لَيْلَةَ الْعَقَبَةِ حِينَ بَايَعْنَاهُ عَلَى الْإِسْلَامِ وَلَمْ أَشْهَدْ بَدْرًا وَمَا أُحِبُّ أَنَّ لِي بِهَا بَدْرًا وَإِنْ كَانَتْ لَهِيَ أَكْثَرَ فِي النَّاسِ مِنْهَا وَكَانَتْ غَزْوَةً لَمْ يُعَاتِبِ اللهُ أَحَدًا تَخَلَّفَ عَنْهَا إِنَّمَا خَرَجَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ يُرِيدُ الْعِيرَ حَتَّى جَمَعَ اللهُ بَيْنَهُ وَبَيْنَ عَدُوِّهِ عَلَى غَيْرِ مَوْعِدٍ وَكَانَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ إِذَا أَرَادَ أَنْ يَغْزُوَ وَجْهًا كُنَّا نُغَيِّرُهُ حَتَّى كَانَتْ غَزْوَةُ تَبُوكٍ غَزَا رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ» فِي حَدِيثِ زَيْدٍ فَذَكَرَ الْحَدِيثَ

✧ Ka'b said: I pledged allegiance to the Messenger of God ﷺ on the night of al-'Aqabah, when we pledged allegiance to him upon Islam, and I did not witness Badr. I would not love to have in its place a battle like Badr, even though it was more talked about among the people than it. It was an expedition for which God did not rebuke anyone who stayed behind from it. The Messenger of God ﷺ had set out only intending the caravan, until God brought him and his enemy together without an appointment. When the Messenger of God ﷺ intended to raid in a direction, we would mislead others about it, until it was the expedition of Tabuk, which the Messenger of God ﷺ undertook—in the hadith of Zayd—then he mentioned the hadith.
