✧ I disliked Quraysh harming the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. When I thought they would kill him, I left until I reached one of the monasteries. The people of the monastery went to their leader and told him, and he said: 'Give him the hospitality he deserves' three times. When three days passed and they saw he had not left, they went to their leader and told him. He said: 'Tell him we have fulfilled the duty of hospitality owed to you. If you are a guardian, then your ward has passed; if you are visiting kin, then you should go to those you visit; if you are a merchant, then you should go out to your trade.' He said: 'I am not visiting kin, nor a merchant, and I have no share [of such matters].' They went back and informed him, and he said: 'He must have some concern; ask him what it is.' They came and asked me. I said: 'No, by Allah, except that I am in the town of Abraham, and my cousin claims that he is a prophet, and his people have harmed him, and I feared they would kill him, so I left so as not to witness that.' They went to their leader and told him what I said. He said: 'Bring him.' I went to him and told him my story. He said: 'Do you fear they will kill him?' I said: 'Yes.' He said: 'Would you recognize his likeness if you saw him in a picture?' I said: 'Yes, for I saw him recently.' He showed me covered pictures and began uncovering picture after picture, saying: 'Do you recognize?' and I said: 'No,' until he uncovered a covered picture, and I said: 'I have not seen anything more like this picture to him, as if it were his height, his body, and the distance between his shoulders.' He said: 'So you fear they will kill him?' I said: 'I think they have already finished him off.' He said: 'By Allah, they will not kill him, and he will surely kill whoever intends to kill him. He is indeed a prophet, and Allah will make him prevail. But our duty of hospitality to you is binding, so stay as long as you wish and ask for whatever you want.' He said: 'So I stayed with them for a while, then I said to myself: If I obey them and go to Makkah...' So I went, and I found that they had expelled the Messenger of Allah ﷺ to Madinah. When I arrived, Quraysh came to me and said: 'Your affair has become clear to us, and we know your situation. Bring the wealth of the orphans which your father entrusted to you.' I said: 'I would not do that until you separate my head from my body, but let me go and deliver it to them.' They said: 'You have a covenant with Allah and His solemn pledge that you will not eat from his food.' He said: 'I came to Madinah, and the news had reached the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. I entered upon him, and he said to me, among other things: "I see you are hungry. Bring food." I said: 'I will not eat until I tell you, and if you see fit for me to eat, then I will eat.' Then I told him what they had made me pledge. He said: "Fulfill your covenant with Allah, and do not eat from our food or drink from our drink."
