حَدَّثَنَا عُبَيْدُ بْنُ غَنَّامٍ ثَنَا أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ ثَنَا وَكِيعٌ عَنِ الْأَعْمَشِ عَنْ أَبِي وَائِلٍ قَالَ عَنْ قَيْسِ بْنِ أَبِي غَرَزَةَ قَالَ

كُنَّا نَبْتَاعُ بِالْمَدِينَةِ وَكُنَّا نُسَمِّي أَنْفُسَنَا السَّمَاسِرَةَ فَأَتَانَا رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ فَسَمَّانَا بِاسْمٍ أَحْسَنَ مِمَّا سَمَّيْنَا بِهِ أَنْفُسَنَا فَقَالَ «يَا مَعْشَرَ التُّجَّارِ إِنَّ هَذَا الْبَيْعَ يَحْضُرُهُ اللَّغْوُ وَالْحَلِفُ فَشُوبُوهُ بِشَيْءٍ مِنَ الصَّدَقَةِ»

✧ We used to trade in Madinah and call ourselves brokers. The Messenger of God ﷺ came to us and named us with a better name than we had named ourselves, saying, “O company of merchants, indeed this selling is attended by idle talk and swearing, so mix it with something of charity.”
