حَدَّثَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ عَبْدِ الْعَزِيزِ ثَنَا عَمْرُو بْنُ عَوْنٍ الْوَاسِطِيُّ ثَنَا إِسْحَاقُ الْأَزْرَقُ عَنْ شَرِيكٍ عَنْ حُصَيْنٍ عَنِ الشَّعْبِيِّ عَنْ قَيْسِ بْنِ سَعْدٍ قَالَ

أَتَيْتُ الْحِيرَةَ فَرَأَيْتُهُمْ يَسْجُدُونَ لِمَرْزُبَانَ لَهُمْ فَقُلْتُ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ أَنْتَ أَحَقُّ أَنْ نَسْجُدَ لَهُ فَقَالَ «لَا تَفْعَلُوا وَلَوْ أَمَرْتُ بِذَلِكَ لَأَمَرْتُ النِّسَاءَ أَنْ يَسْجُدْنَ لِأَزْوَاجِهِنَّ لِمَا جَعَلَ اللهُ عَلَيْهِنَّ مِنْ حَقِّهِمْ»

✧ I came to al-Ḥīrah and saw them prostrating to a governor of theirs. So I said, “O Messenger of God, you are more deserving that we prostrate to you.” He said, “Do not do so. If I were to command that, I would command women to prostrate to their husbands because of the right God has placed upon them toward them.”
