حَدَّثَنَا عُمَرُ بْنُ حَفْصٍ السَّدُوسِيُّ ثنا عَاصِمُ بْنُ عَلِيٍّ ثنا قَيْسُ بْنُ الرَّبِيعِ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عَقِيلٍ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ جُبَيْرِ بْنِ مُطْعِمٍ عَنْ أَبِيهِ جُبَيْرِ بْنِ مُطْعِمٍ

أَنَّ رَجُلًا أَتَى النَّبِيَّ ﷺ فَقَالَ أَيُّ الْبِلَادِ شَرٌّ؟ فَقَالَ «لَا أَدْرِي» فَلَمَّا أَتَى جِبْرِيلُ رَسُولَ اللهِ عَلَيْهِمَا السَّلَامُ قَالَ «أَيُّ الْبِلَادِ شَرٌّ؟» قَالَ لَا أَدْرِي حَتَّى أَسْأَلَ رَبِّي فَانْطَلَقَ جِبْرِيلُ عَلَيْهِ السَّلَامُ فَمَكَثَ مَا شَاءَ اللهُ فَقَالَ يَا مُحَمَّدُ إِنَّكَ سَأَلْتَنِي أَيُّ الْبِلَادِ شَرٌّ؟ فَقُلْتُ «لَا أَدْرِي» وَإِنِّي سَأَلْتُ رَبِّي فَقُلْتُ أَيُّ الْبِلَادِ شَرٌّ؟ قَالَ أَسْوَاقُهَا

✧ A man came to the Prophet ﷺ and said: 'Which land is the worst?' He said: 'I do not know.' When Jibril came to the Messenger of Allah, upon both of them be peace, he said: 'Which land is the worst?' He said: 'I do not know until I ask my Lord.' So Jibril ﷺ went and remained as long as Allah willed, then said: 'O Muhammad, you asked me which land is the worst, and I said, "I do not know." I asked my Lord, saying: "Which land is the worst?" He said: "Its marketplaces."'
