✧ He was with the Prophet ﷺ, and they traveled through the night until, when they were near dawn, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ halted for a rest, and sleep overcame them until the sun rose. The first to wake from his sleep was Abu Bakr, and no one would wake the Messenger of Allah ﷺ from his sleep until the Prophet ﷺ woke on his own. Then ʿUmar woke and did something near his head; he began saying takbir and raising his voice until the Prophet ﷺ woke. When he saw that the sun had risen, he said: "Depart." He traveled with us until the sun became bright, then he dismounted and led us in prayer. One man from the group withdrew and did not pray with us. When he finished, he said: "O so-and-so, what prevented you from praying with us?" He said: "O Messenger of Allah, I was in a state of major ritual impurity." So he commanded him to perform tayammum with clean earth, and he prayed. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ sent me ahead with a small group of riders to search for water, for we had become severely thirsty. While we were traveling, we came upon a woman with her legs dangling between two water skins. We said to her: "Where is water?" She said: "Alas, alas, there is no water." We said: "How far are you from water?" She said: "A day and a night." We said: "Come with us to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ." She said: "And what is the Messenger of Allah ﷺ?" We did not give her any choice in the matter until we brought her before the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. We opened the two spouts and drank, forty thirsty men, until we were satisfied, and we filled every water skin and vessel we had. Then he said to us: "Bring whatever you have." We gathered for her bits of bread and dates until we made a bundle for her. He said: "Go and feed this to your family, and know that we have not taken anything from your water." When she came to her people, she said: "We have met the most enchanting of people, or he is a prophet as they claimed." So Allah guided that tribe through that woman, and she and they embraced Islam.
