حَدَّثَنَا خَلْفُ بْنُ عَمْرٍو الْعُكْبَرِيُّ وَأَحْمَدُ بْنُ يَحْيَى الْحُلْوَانِيُّ قَالَا ثنا سَعِيدُ بْنُ سُلَيْمَانَ الْوَاسِطِيُّ ثنا الْمُشْمَعِلُّ بْنُ مِلْحَانَ أنا عَبْدُ الْمَلِكِ بْنُ هَارُونَ بْنِ عَنْتَرَةَ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنْ جَدِّهِ قَالَ
قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ ذَاتَ يَوْمٍ «مَا تَعُدُّونَ الشَّهِيدَ فِيكُمْ؟» قُلْنَا يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ مَنْ قُتِلَ فِي سَبِيلِ اللهِ قَالَ «إِنَّ شُهَدَاءَ أُمَّتِي إِذًا لَقَلِيلٌ مَنْ قُتِلَ فِي سَبِيلِ اللهِ فَهُوَ شَهِيدٌ وَالْبَطْنُ شَهِيدٌ وَالْمُتَرَدِّي شَهِيدٌ وَالنُّفَسَاءُ شَهِيدٌ وَالْغَرِيقُ شَهِيدٌ» زَادَ الْحُلْوَانِيُّ فِي حَدِيثِهِ «وَالسُّلُ شَهِيدٌ وَالْحَرِيقُ شَهِيدٌ وَالَغَرِيبُ شَهِيدٌ»

✧ One day the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: “Whom do you count as a martyr among you?” We said, “O Messenger of Allah, the one who is killed in the path of Allah.” He said, “Then the martyrs of my community would be few. Whoever is killed in the path of Allah is a martyr; the one who dies of a stomach ailment is a martyr; the one who falls from a height is a martyr; the woman who dies in childbirth is a martyr; and the one who drowns is a martyr.” Al-Ḥulwānī added in his narration: “And the one who dies of tuberculosis is a martyr, the one who dies in a fire is a martyr, and the stranger is a martyr.”
