حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو الزِّنْبَاعِ رَوْحُ بْنُ الْفَرَجِ ثنا يَحْيَى بْنُ بُكَيْرٍ حَدَّثَنِي اللَّيْثُ ح وَحَدَّثَنَا مُطَّلِبُ بْنُ شُعَيْبٍ الْأَزْدِيُّ ثنا عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ صَالِحٍ حَدَّثَنِي اللَّيْثُ عَنْ إِبْرَاهِيمَ بْنِ أَبِي عَبْلَةَ عَنِ الْوَلِيدِ بْنِ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ الْجُرَشِيِّ عَنْ جُبَيْرِ بْنِ نُفَيْرٍ عَنْ عَوْفِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ الْأَشْجَعِيِّ
أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ نَظَرَ إِلَى السَّمَاءِ يَوْمًا فَقَالَ «هَذَا أَوَانٌ يُرْفَعُ الْعِلْمُ» فَقَالَ لَهُ رَجُلٌ مِنَ الْأَنْصَارِ يُقَالُ لَهُ زِيَادُ بْنُ لَبِيدٍ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ يُرْفَعُ الْعِلْمُ وَقَدْ أَتَيْتَ وَوَعَتْهُ الْقُلُوبُ؟ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ «إِنْ كُنْتُ لَأَحْسَبُكَ مِنْ أَفْقَهِ أَهْلِ الْمَدِينَةِ» ثُمَّ ذَكَرَ لَهُ ضَلَالَةَ الْيَهُودِ وَالنَّصَارَى عَلَى مَا فِي أَيْدِيهِمْ مِنْ كِتَابِ اللهِ فَلَقِيتُ شَدَّادَ بْنَ أَوْسٍ فَحَدَّثْتُهُ بِحَدِيثِ عَوْفٍ فَقَالَ صَدَقَ عَوْفٌ أَلَا أُخْبِرُكَ بِأَوَّلِ ذَلِكَ يُرْفَعُ؟ قَالَ «الْخُشُوعُ لَا تَرَى خَاشِعًا»

✧ The Messenger of Allah ﷺ looked at the sky one day and said, "This is a time when knowledge will be lifted." A man from the Ansar called Ziyad b. Labid said to him, "O Messenger of Allah, will knowledge be lifted while you have come and hearts have preserved it?" The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "I had thought you were one of the most understanding of the people of Madinah." Then he mentioned to him the misguidance of the Jews and Christians despite the Book of Allah in their hands. So I met Shaddad b. Aws and told him the hadith of 'Awf, and he said, "'Awf spoke the truth. Shall I tell you of the first of that to be lifted?" He said, "It is humility; you will not see a humble person."
