حَدَّثَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ عَبْدِ الْعَزِيزِ وَأَبُو مُسْلِمٍ الْكَشِّيُ قَالَا ثنا حَجَّاجُ بْنُ الْمِنْهَالِ ثنا حَمَّادُ بْنُ سَلَمَةَ عَنْ ثَابِتٍ عَنْ مُعَاوِيَةَ بْنِ قُرَّةَ عَنْ عَائِذِ بْنِ عَمْرٍو
أَنَّ أَبَا سُفْيَانَ مَرَّ بِسَلْمَانَ وَصُهَيْبٍ وَبِلَالٍ فَقَالُوا مَا أَخَذَتْ سُيُوفُ اللهِ مِنْ عُنُقِ هَذَا مَا أَخَذَهَا بَعْدُ فَقَالَ أَبُو بَكْرٍ تَقُولُونَ هَذَا لِشَيْخِ قُرَيْشٍ وَسَيِّدِهَا ثُمَّ أَتَى النَّبِيَّ ﷺ فَأَخْبَرَهُ بِالَّذِي قَالُوا فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ «يَا أَبَا بَكْرٍ لَعَلَّكَ أَغْضَبْتَهُمْ وَالَّذِي نَفْسِي بِيَدِهِ لَئِنْ كُنْتَ أَغْضَبْتَهُمْ لَقَدْ أَغْضَبْتَ رَبِّكَ» فَرَجَعَ إِلَيْهِمْ فَقَالَ أَيْ إِخْوَتِي لِعَلِّي أَغْضَبْتُكُمْ؟ قَالُوا لَا يَا أَبَا بَكْرٍ يَغْفِرُ اللهُ لَكَ

✧ That Abū Sufyān passed by Salmān, Ṣuhayb and Bilāl, and they said: "The swords of God have not yet taken from the neck of this one what they have taken." Abū Bakr said: "Do you say this of the elder of Quraysh and its master?" Then he came to the Prophet ﷺ and told him what they said. The Prophet ﷺ said: "O Abū Bakr, perhaps you have angered them. By the One in whose hand is my soul, if you have angered them, you have angered your Lord." So he returned to them and said: "O my brothers, perhaps I have angered you?" They said: "No, O Abū Bakr, may God forgive you."
