حَدَّثَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ طَاهِرِ بْنِ حَرْمَلَةَ بْنِ يَحْيَى حَدَّثَنِي حَرْمَلَةُ بْنُ يَحْيَى ثَنَا ابْنُ وَهْبٍ حَدَّثَنِي عَمْرُو بْنُ صَالِحٍ الْحَضْرَمِيُّ عَنْ مُوسَى بْنِ عَلِيٍّ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنْ عُقْبَةَ بْنِ عَامِرٍ الْجُهَنِيِّ

أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ طَلَّقَ حَفْصَةَ فَبَلَغَ ذَلِكَ عُمَرَ بْنَ الْخَطَّابِ فَوَضَعَ التُّرَابَ عَلَى رَأْسِهِ فَقَالَ مَا يَعْبَأُ اللهُ بِكَ يَا ابْنَ الْخَطَّابِ بَعْدَ هَذَا فَنَزَلَ جِبْرِيلُ عَلَيْهِ السَّلَامُ فَقَالَ إِنَّ اللهَ تَعَالَى يَأْمُرُكَ أَنْ تُرَاجِعَ حَفْصَةَ رَحْمَةً لِعُمَرَ

✧ that the Prophet ﷺ divorced Ḥafṣah. This reached ʿUmar b. al-Khaṭṭāb, so he placed dust on his head and said: “God will not care about you, O son of al-Khaṭṭāb, after this.” Then Jibrīl ﷺ came down and said: “God Almighty commands you to take back Ḥafṣah as a mercy to ʿUmar.”
