حَدَّثَنَا عُثْمَانُ بْنُ عُمَرَ الضَّبِّيُّ ثَنَا عَمْرُو بْنُ مَرْزُوقٍ أنَا شُعْبَةُ عَنِ الْأَعْمَشِ عَنْ أَبِي وَائِلٍ عَنْ أَبِي مَسْعُودٍ قَالَ
كُنَّا نَتَحَامَلُ فَيَجِيءُ أَحَدُنَا بِالصَّدَقَةِ الْقَلِيلَةِ وَيَجِيءُ الرَّجُلُ بِالنِّصْفِ صَاعٍ فَيَلْمِزُنَا نَاسٌ مِنَ الْمُنَافِقِينَ فَنَزَلَتْ {الَّذِينَ يَلْمِزُونَ الْمُطَّوِّعِينَ مِنَ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ فِي الصَّدَقَاتِ} الْآيَةَ

✧ We used to exert ourselves, so one of us would come with a small charity, and a man would come with half a sa'. Then some people among the hypocrites would defame us, so it was revealed: {Those who criticize the volunteers among the believers concerning charities} - the verse.
