حَدَّثَنَا بِشْرُ بْنُ مُوسَى ثنا أَبُو عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ الْمُقْرِيُ ثنا كَهْمَسُ بْنُ الْحَسَنِ عَنْ مُصْعَبِ بْنِ ثَابِتٍ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ الزُّبَيْرِ قَالَ قَالَ
عُثْمَانُ بْنُ عَفَّانَ ؓ وَهُوَ يَخْطُبُ عَلَى الْمِنْبَرِ إِنِّي مُحَدِّثُكُمْ بِحَدِيثٍ سَمِعْتُهُ مِنْ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ لَمْ يَكُنْ يَمْنَعُنِي أَنْ أُحَدِّثَكُمْ إِلَّا الضِّنُّ بِكُمْ سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ يَقُولُ «حَرَسُ لَيْلَةٍ فِي سَبِيلِ اللهِ أَفْضَلُ مِنْ أَلْفِ لَيْلَةٍ يُقَامُ لَيْلُهَا وَيُصَامُ نَهَارُهَا»

✧ Uthman b. Affan ؓ, while delivering a sermon on the pulpit: I will tell you a hadith I heard from the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. Nothing prevented me from telling you except concern for you. I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say, 'A night of guard duty in the path of Allah is better than a thousand nights in which its night is spent in prayer and its day is spent in fasting.'
