✧ The Messenger of God ﷺ taught me prayer and fasting, and said: “Pray thus and pray thus, and fast thus. When the sun sets, eat and drink until the white thread becomes distinct for you from the black thread of dawn. And fast thirty days, unless you sight the new moon before that.” So I took two threads of hair, one black and one white, and I would look at them, but it would not become distinct for me. I mentioned that to the Messenger of God ﷺ, and he laughed and said: “O Ibn Ḥātim, that is only the whiteness of day from the blackness of night.”
