حَدَّثَنَا مُعَاذُ بْنُ الْمُثَنَّى ثَنَا مُسَدَّدٌ ثَنَا الْمُعْتَمِرُ قَالَ سَمِعْتُ عِيسَى بْنَ الْمُسَيِّبِ يُحَدِّثُ عَنِ الشَّعْبِيِّ عَنْ عَدِيِّ بْنِ حَاتِمٍ قَالَ
قُلْتُ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ إِنَّا بِأَرْضِ صَيْدٍ وَإِنَّا نَخْرَجُ بِنِبَالٍ فَذَكَرَ الْمَعَارِيضَ فَقَالَ نَبِيُّ اللهِ ﷺ «إِذَا رَمَيْتَ بِالْمِعْرَاضِ وَسَمَّيْتَ فَخَزَقَ فَكُلْهُ فَتِلْكَ ذَكَاتُهُ وَإِنْ أَصَابَ مُعْتَرِضًا فَلَا تَأْكُلْهُ إِلَّا أَنْ تُذَكُّوهُ وَإِنْ لَمْ تَجِدْ إِلَّا بِمَرْوَةٍ فَإِنَّهَا تُجْزِئُ عَنْكَ»

✧ I said: “O Messenger of Allah, we are in a land of hunting, and we go out with arrows.” He mentioned the miʿrāḍ (a blunt arrow), and the Prophet of Allah ﷺ said: “When you shoot with the miʿrāḍ and invoke the name, and it pierces, eat it, for that is its slaughter. If it strikes with its side, do not eat it unless you slaughter it. If you find only a stone, it will suffice for you.”
