حَدَّثَنَا عُثْمَانُ بْنُ عُمَرَ الضَّبِّيُّ ثَنَا عَمْرُو بْنُ مَرْزُوقٍ أَنَا شُعْبَةُ عَنْ سَعِيدِ بْنِ مَسْرُوقٍ عَنِ الشَّعْبِيِّ عَنْ عَدِيِّ بْنِ حَاتِمٍ قَالَ
سَأَلْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ قُلْتُ أُرْسِلُ كَلْبِي وَآخُذُ مَعَ كَلْبِي كَلْبًا آخَرَ لَا أَدْرِي أَيُّهُمَا أَخَذَ؟ قَالَ «لَا تَأْكُلْ فَإِنَّمَا قَدْ سَمَّيْتَ عَلَى كَلْبِكَ وَلَمْ تُسَمِّ عَلَى غَيْرِهِ»

✧ I asked the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, saying: 'I send my dog and find another dog with it, and I do not know which of them caught it.' He said: 'Do not eat, for you invoked the name over your dog, but you did not invoke it over the other.'
