حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو زُرْعَةَ عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنُ عَمْرٍو ثَنَا آدَمُ ثَنَا شُعْبَةُ ثَنَا عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ أَبِي السَّفَرِ عَنِ الشَّعْبِيِّ عَنْ عَدِيِّ بْنِ حَاتِمٍ قَالَ
قُلْتُ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ أُرْسِلُ كَلْبِي وأُسَمِّي وَأَجِدُ مَعَهُ كَلْبًا آخَرَ لَا أَدْرِي أَيُّهُمَا أَخَذَهُ فَقَالَ «لَا تَأْكُلْ فَإِنَّمَا سَمَّيْتَ عَلَى كَلْبِكَ وَلَمْ تُسَمِّ عَلَى غَيْرِهِ»

✧ I said: 'O Messenger of Allah, I send my dog and invoke the name (of Allah), and I find another dog with it, and I do not know which of them caught it.' He said: 'Do not eat, for you invoked the name over your dog, but you did not invoke it over the other.'
