حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو خَلِيفَةَ قَالَ قَالَ
مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ سَلَّامٍ عَمْرُو بْنُ مَعْدِي كَرِبَ لَهُ فِي الْجَاهِلِيَّةِ وَقَائِعٌ وَقَدْ أَدْرَكَ الْإِسْلَامَ قَدِمَ عَلَى النَّبِيِّ ﷺ وَوَجَّهَهُ عُمَرُ بْنُ الْخَطَّابِ إِلَى سَعْدِ بْنِ أَبِي وَقَّاصٍ ؓ إِلَى الْقَادِسِيَّةِ وَكَانَ لَهُ هُنَاكَ بَلَاءٌ حَسَنٌ كَتَبَ عُمَرُ إِلَى سَعْدِ بْنِ أَبِي وَقَّاصٍ بِأَلْفَي رَجُلٍ عَمْرُو بْنُ مَعْدِي كَرِبَ وَطَلْحَةُ بْنُ خُوَيْلِدٍ وَهُوَ طَلْحَةُ الْأَسَدِيُّ فَشَاوِرْهُمَا فِي الْحَرْبِ وَلَا تُوَلِّهِمَا شَيْئًا
Translation

✧ Muhammad b. Sallam said: “ʿAmr b. Maʿdi Karib had battles in the pre-Islamic era and lived into Islam. He came to the Prophet ﷺ, and ʿUmar b. al-Khattab ؓ sent him to Saʿd b. Abi Waqqas ؓ at al-Qadisiyyah. He showed excellent valor there. ʿUmar wrote to Saʿd b. Abi Waqqas: ‘With two thousand men: ʿAmr b. Maʿdi Karib and Talha b. Khuwaylid, who is Talha al-Asadi. Consult both of them in war but do not appoint them over anything.’”
