حَدَّثَنَا مُطَّلِبُ بْنُ شُعَيْبٍ الْأَزْدِيُّ قَالَ ثنا عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ صَالِحٍ حَدَّثَنِي اللَّيْثُ قَالَ حَدَّثَنِي أَبُو قَبِيلٍ الْمَعَافِرِيُّ عَنْ شُفَيٍّ الْأَصْبَحِيِّ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ عَمْرٍو قَالَ
خَرَجَ عَلَيْنَا رَسُولُ اللهِ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَفِي يَدِهِ كِتَابَانِ فَقَالَ «أَتَدْرُونَ مَا هَذَانِ الْكِتَابَانِ؟» فَقُلْنَا لَا إِلَّا أَنْ تُخْبِرَنَا يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ قَالَ «هَذَا كِتَابُ رَبِّ الْعَالَمِينَ فِيهِ أَسْمَاءُ أَهْلِ الْجَنَّةِ وَأَسْمَاءُ آبَائِهِمْ وَقَبَائِلِهِمْ ثُمَّ أُجْمِلَ عَلَى آخِرِهِمْ فَلَا يُزَادُ فِيهِمْ وَلَا يُنْقَصُ مِنْهُمْ أَبَدًا وَهَذَا كِتَابُ أَهْلِ النَّارِ بِأَسْمَائِهِمْ وَأَسْمَاءِ آبَائِهِمْ وَقَبَائِلِهِمْ ثُمَّ أُجْمِلَ عَلَى الْآخِرِ مِنْهُمْ فَلَا يُزَادُ فِيهِمْ وَلَا يُنْقَصُ مِنْهُمْ أَبَدًا» فَقَالَ أَصْحَابُ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ فَفِيمَ الْعَمَلُ إِنْ كَانَ هَذَا أَمْرٌ قَدْ فُرِغَ مِنْهُ؟ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ «بَلْ سَدِّدُوا وَقَارِبُوا فَإِنَّ صَاحِبَ الْجَنَّةِ يُخْتَمُ لَهُ بِعَمَلِ الْجَنَّةِ وَإِنْ عَمِلَ أَيَّ عَمَلٍ وَإِنَّ صَاحِبَ النَّارِ يُخْتَمُ لَهُ بِعَمَلِ أَهْلِ النَّارِ وَإِنْ عَمِلَ أَيَّ عَمَلٍ فَرَغَ رَبُّكُمْ ﷻ مِنَ الْعِبَادِ» ثُمَّ قَالَ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ بِيَدَيْهِ فَنَبَذَهُمَا «فَرَغَ رَبُّكُمْ مِنَ الْخَلْقِ فَرِيقٌ فِي الْجَنَّةِ وَفَرِيقٌ فِي السَّعِيرِ»

✧ The Messenger of God ﷺ came out to us with two books in his hand and said: “Do you know what these two books are?” We said: “No, unless you tell us, O Messenger of God.” He said: “This is the book of the Lord of the Worlds, in it are the names of the people of Paradise and the names of their fathers and their tribes, then they are totaled at the last of them, so none are added to them or subtracted from them ever. And this is the book of the people of the Fire, with their names and the names of their fathers and their tribes, then they are totaled at the last of them, so none are added to them or subtracted from them ever.” The companions of the Messenger of God ﷺ said: “Then what is the point of action if this is a matter already finished?” The Messenger of God ﷺ said: “Rather, aim aright and draw near, for the person of Paradise is sealed with the deeds of Paradise even if he does any deed, and the person of the Fire is sealed with the deeds of the people of the Fire even if he does any deed. Your Lord, Mighty and Exalted, has finished with the servants.” Then the Messenger of God ﷺ made a gesture with his hands and cast them aside: “Your Lord has finished with creation: a party in Paradise and a party in the Blaze.”
