حَدَّثَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ عَبْدِ الْعَزِيزِ قَالَ ثنا أَبُو نُعَيْمٍ قَالَ ثنا يُونُسُ بْنُ أَبِي إِسْحَاقَ عَنْ هِلَالِ بْنِ خَبَّابٍ أَبِي الْعَلَاءِ قَالَ حَدَّثَنِي عِكْرِمَةُ قَالَ حَدَّثَنِي عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ عَمْرٍو قَالَ
بَيْنَا نَحْنُ حَوْلَ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ إِذَا ذَكَرَ الْفِتْنَةَ أَوْ ذُكِرَتْ عِنْدَهُ فَقَالَ «إِذَا رَأَيْتَ النَّاسَ قَدْ مَرِجَتْ عُهُودُهُمْ وَخَفَّتْ أَمَانَاتُهُمْ وَكَانُوا هَكَذَا» وَشَبَّكَ بَيْنَ أَصَابِعِهِ قَالَ فَقُمْتُ إِلَيْهِ فَقُلْتُ كَيْفَ أَصْنَعُ عِنْدَ ذَلِكَ جَعَلَنِي اللهُ فِدَاءَكَ؟ قَالَ «الْزَمْ بَيْتَكَ وَأَمْلِكُ عَلَيْكَ لِسَانَكَ وَخُذْ مَا تَعْرِفُ وَدَعْ مَا تُنْكِرُ وَعَلَيْكَ بِأَمْرِ الْخَاصَّةِ وَدَعْ أَمَرَ الْعَامَّةِ»

✧ While we were around the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, he mentioned the fitnah or it was mentioned in his presence. He said, "When you see that people's covenants have become corrupted, their trusts have become light, and they have become like this"—and he interlaced his fingers. I stood up to him and said, "How should I act at that time, may Allah make me your ransom?" He said, "Stay in your house, control your tongue, take what you know, leave what you reject, keep to the affairs of your own self, and leave the affairs of the common people."
