✧ We were with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ when a man from the desert came to him wearing a jubbah of Sijan, fastened with silk brocade. He said, "The Messenger of Allah ﷺ wants to elevate every horseman son of a horseman and lower every shepherd son of a shepherd." The Messenger of Allah ﷺ took hold of the collar of his jubbah and said, "He is wearing the clothing of one who does not understand." Then the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "When the Prophet of Allah, Nuh, was near death, he said to his son, 'O my son, I am giving you my final instructions.' He then briefed him on the instruction: 'I command you with two things and forbid you from two things. I command you with 'There is no god but Allah,' for if the seven heavens and the seven earths were placed on one side of a scale and 'There is no god but Allah' on the other, it would outweigh them. And if the seven heavens and the seven earths were a closed ring, 'There is no god but Allah' would break it. And I command you with 'Glory be to Allah and with His praise,' for it is the prayer of creation, and by it creation is given provision. And I forbid you from disbelief and arrogance.'" A man said, "O Messenger of Allah, we know what disbelief is; what is arrogance? Is it that a man has two fine sandals which he wears, and two fine straps that please him?" He said, "No." He said, "Is it that he has a fine garment which he wears?" He said, "No." He said, "Is it that he has a beautiful horse whose beauty pleases him?" He said, "No." He said, "Is it that he has companions who sit with him?" He said, "No." He said, "Then what is arrogance?" He said, "To reject the truth and look down on people."
