حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ النَّضْرِ الْأَزْدِيُّ ثنا مُعَاوِيَةُ بْنُ عَمْرٍو ثنا زَائِدَةُ ثنا عَاصِمُ بْنُ أَبِي النَّجُودِ عَنْ شَقِيقِ بْنِ سَلَمَةَ قَالَ لَقِيَ عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنُ عَوْفٍ الْوَلِيدَ بْنَ عُقْبَةَ فَقَالَ

مَا لِي أَرَاكَ قَدْ جَفَوْتَ أَمِيرَ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ عُثْمَانَ ؓ؟ فَقَالَ عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنُ عَوْفٍ ؓ أُبَلِّغُهُ أَنِّي لَمْ أَتَخَلَّفْ عَنْ بَدْرٍ فَخُبِّرَ بِذَلِكَ عُثْمَانُ ؓ فَقَالَ «أَمَّا قَوْلُهُ إِنِّي لَمْ أَتَخَلَّفْ عَنْ بَدْرٍ فَإِنِّي كُنْتُ أُمَرِّضُ رُقَيَّةَ بِنْتَ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ حَتَّى مَاتَتْ» وَلَقَدْ ضَرَبَ لِي رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ بِسَهْمٍ وَمَنْ ضَرَبَ لَهُ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ بِسَهْمٍ فَقَدْ شَهِدَ

✧ Why do I see that you have kept away from the Commander of the Faithful, Uthman ؓ? Abd al-Rahman b. Awf ؓ said: Shall I tell him that I did not stay behind from Badr? Uthman ؓ was informed of that, so he said: As for his saying that I did not stay behind from Badr, I was nursing Ruqayya bt. the Messenger of Allah ﷺ until she died. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ allotted me a share, and whoever the Messenger of Allah ﷺ allotted a share to has indeed attended.
