حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ نَصْرٍ الصَّائِغُ ثنا إِبْرَاهِيمُ بْنُ حَمْزَةَ الزُّبَيْرِيُّ ثنا عَبْدُ الْعَزِيزِ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ عَنْ عُبَيْدِ اللهِ بْنِ عُمَرَ عَنْ نَافِعٍ عَنِ ابْنِ عُمَرَ ؓ قَالَ
بَعَثَنِي خَالِي عُثْمَانُ بْنُ مَظْعُونَ لِآتِيَهُ بِلُحَافٍ فَأَتَيْتُ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ فَاسْتَأْذَنْتُهُ وَهُوَ بَالْخَنْدَقِ فَأَذِنَ لِي وَقَالَ لِي مَنْ لَقِيتَ فَقُلْ لَهُمْ إِنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ يَأْمُرُكُمْ أَنْ تَرْجِعُوا وَكَانَ ذَلِكَ فِي بَرْدٍ شَدِيدٍ فَخَرَجْتُ فَلَقِيتُ النَّاسَ فَقُلْتُ لَهُمْ إِنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ يَأْمُرُكُمْ أَنْ تَرْجِعُوا قَالَ فَلَا وَاللهِ مَا عَطَفَ عَلَيَّ اثْنَانِ أَوْ وَاحِدٌ

✧ My maternal uncle ʿUthman b. Mazʿun sent me to bring him a blanket. I went to the Prophet ﷺ and asked his permission while he was at the trench. He gave me permission and said to me, 'Whoever you meet, tell them that the Messenger of God ﷺ commands you to return.' That was during severe cold. I went out and met the people and said to them, 'The Messenger of God ﷺ commands you to return.' He said: 'By God, no two or even one of them turned back for me.'
